Teaching Students to Manage Anxiety

This Conference is now Closed

This virtual masterclass has been designed to explore the topic of anxiety amongst children and young people and how leaders in schools can best support them.

“Worry and mild or moderate anxiety, whilst sometimes difficult emotions, can be a normal part of growing up for many children and young people…Being in school can often help alleviate the underlying issues. A prolonged period of absence is likely to heighten a child’s anxiety about attending in the future, rather than reduce it.”

Prof Chris Whitty, Chief Medical Officer for England

The increase in anxiety amongst school pupils has been well documented and recent research shows that 65% of UK children say they have felt anxious, nervous or stressed because of school.

This newly updated Masterclass has been put together specifically for senior leaders in schools to help them understand their role in supporting children who are struggling with anxiety.

You will come away with knowledge to assist you with early identification and intervention as well as practical ideas and tools to take back to your school and put into practice straight away to support your pupils. Our expert speaker will cover topics such as; implementing evidence based interventions, tackling exam anxiety, supporting anxious students to return to school, supporting anxiety for children with SEN, as well as looking at the role of anxiety in specific conditions such as eating disorders and self-harm.

You’ll have plenty of opportunity to network with colleagues from other settings, as well as Sam, our expert speaker, enabling you to focus on the specific challenges you are facing in your setting.

Senior Mental Health Leads, Pastoral Leads, Designated Safeguarding Leads, School Counsellors, School Nurses, SENCOs, members of the SLT should attend
