“…children and young people with SEN fall behind their peers at every stage of education, regardless of their prior attainment. Children and young people with SEN are also more likely to be disengaged from education, pushing them further behind. They have poorer attendance and are more likely to be excluded.”

SEND Review: Right support, Right time, Right place

Ofsted are clear, outstanding schools must be inclusive schools. To achieve an outstanding Ofsted rating schools must demonstrate that children and young people with SEND achieve exceptionally well. As part of this you must be able to demonstrate that all SEND pupils have access to the same, ambitious and broad curriculum.

All schools and further education providers will be inspected by Ofsted before the summer term 2025. This will give a clear picture on how well schools are recovering from the pandemic, and will also give insight into how well children and young people with SEND are performing under the new framework.

With the publication of the SEND and AP Improvement Plan and a new local area SEND inspection framework, your SEND provision will be under scrutiny in the coming academic year.
