““41% The number of leaders using their pupil premium to plug gaps in their general budget.””

School Funding and the Pupil Premium April 2023, The Sutton Trust

““Our evidence suggests there should be a greater focus on very low-attaining pupils and closing the disadvantage gap” ”

Ben Styles, NFER researcher

The gap in attainment at GCSE level, between disadvantaged pupils and their better-off peers has once again widened, and is at its highest for over a decade. At the same time the annual School Funding and Pupil Premium report from the Sutton Trust has shown that the number of school leaders using pupil premium to plug budget gaps has increased from 33% to 41% in a year. With the impact of Covid still being felt, the increasing challenges of the cost-of-living crisis and huge concerns about school attendance rates, the disadvantage gap looks set to continue rising.

This conference has been designed to help schools can get the most out of their pupil premium funding by putting in place a robust, evidence-based pupil premium strategy. Through a series of sessions led by expert speakers and case studies demonstrating outstanding practice, you will come away with a clearer understanding of how disadvantage impacts pupils, and how you use your funding to deliver pupil premium interventions that will have an impact.

You will also leave the day with a clear understanding of your duties for reporting and the recent changes in this area, ensuring that your strategy, data and evidence for spending decisions is all ready for inspection day.

With increasing pressure on school finances, ensuring that you are maximising the impact of your pupil premium funding is crucial for your overall school budget.
