This Conference is now Closed

Follow the conference on X #CAMHS2024

This conference will look at national developments and practical advice in improving access to CAMHS and mental health and wellbeing support support for children in school, there will be a focus on innovation to provide effective care, suicide prevention, inter-agency working and access to services.

The conference will include an extended interactive workshop focusing on improving mental health support in school following the development of NHS mental health support teams which are now in place in around 4,700 schools and colleges across the country, with 287 expert teams offering support to children experiencing anxiety, depression, and other common mental health issues.

“The last year has been one of the most difficult for this age group, emerging from the pandemic to more limited prospects for their futures, coupled with an increase in academic pressure to catch up on lost learning, and the impact of the cost-of-living crisis. The current state of play cannot continue. The government must get a grip of the situation.”

Tom Madders, director of campaigns at YoungMinds

“The number of school-age children being referred to CAMHS has undergone an “explosion” in the last three years, soaring by 76% since 2019, NHS figures show. That year 812,070 under-18s in England were referred to CAMHS for treatment of anxiety, depression, eating disorders and other psychological problems. But far more – 1,425,194, the highest number on record – were referred during 2022. That was the second year in a row in which referrals topped 1m, amid the continuing impact of Covid on young people’s wellbeing.”
