In this course we will look at best practice and consider practical things we can do to ensure the culture and ethos of safeguarding is truly embedded across our setting and the wider school community.
It is often said that the better a school is at safeguarding its children, the more work is created for the DSL and wider safeguarding team. This can be true, but it can also provide us with peace of mind that children are actually being kept safe and being supported to thrive. Nevertheless, we will also be looking at easy and quick things we can do to embed the culture and ethos of safeguarding without creating more work for ourselves – namely, how to grow other staff’s confidence in their responsibilities and different ways that we can encourage disclosures and support-seeking from our pupils and students.
Finally, safeguarding is not just about the children in front of us but actually a group effort with parents/carers and other stakeholders. Therefore, we will be looking at how to engage them in our processes so everyone is on the same page.
Please note this is an individual module from our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Essentials Certificate.
