Keeping children safe in education (KCSIE) 2022

The statutory safeguarding and child protection guidance for schools has been updated by the Department for Education (DfE). This update will come into force on 1 September 2022 and will replace KCSIE2021.

The update offers guidance to schools and colleges in England regarding safeguarding children and young people, and promoting their welfare. 

The NSPCC has released a Caspar briefing setting out changes made to the guidance, including:

  • incorporating the advice from the DfE regarding sexual violence and sexual harrassment between children in schools and colleges
  • safeguarding implications being set out for schools of human rights and equality legislation
  • supplying more information on managing low level concerns 
  • supporting the coversations with parents regarding children's access to online sites when away from school
