This half-day training session is designed for current and aspiring Heads of Sixth Form, providing essential strategies to navigate the multifaceted challenges of leadership in post16 education. Participants will learn to enhance curriculum delivery, improve student transition, and meet Ofsted expectations, ensuring their sixth form provision not only meets but exceeds national standards.
Our programme is structured to equip sixth form leaders with the tools and insights necessary for fostering an environment of excellence and innovation. Beginning with an exploration of the Sixth Form Leadership role, we delve into the critical areas of curriculum development, student recruitment and retention, monitoring and evaluation, and post-18 advice and guidance, all underpinned by the latest Ofsted framework considerations.
Participants will gain from practical advice to help them focus on effective strategies for managing workload, enhancing communication, and ensuring student well-being and success. Additionally, insights into facilitating a smooth transition from Year 11 to Sixth Form will be discussed, emphasising the importance of preparing students for life beyond school.
The training will highlight the relevance of these aspects to Ofsted’s expectations, particularly focusing on the development of a high-quality, comprehensive curriculum that supports progression, inclusion, and prepares students for future challenges.

FACILITATOR
Malcolm is an experienced leadership consultant who works with the National Institute of Teaching and Ambition Institute supporting school and trust improvement. In addition, he has been responsible for the design and delivery of both specialist and leadership National Professional Qualifications for 5 of the national providers.
He has been a Headteacher, Executive Headteacher and National Leader of Education, typically working with schools in disadvantaged communities. Malcolm led the design and implementation of a revised Primary & Secondary curriculum for the Harris Federation from 2019, which has been judged as outstanding by Ofsted in seven inspections. In his first headship he led his school from Special Measures to Outstanding, and then achieved recognition as School of the Year from the TES.
