Adolescence is a period of expanding horizons. For many young people, however, the future can feel both exciting and bewildering. The array of possible pathways – academic, vocational, technical, and employment-based – can appear opaque without careful guidance. Schools therefore play a critical role not simply in preparing learners academically, but in helping them navigate the transition from compulsory education into adulthood.
High-quality careers education is not an optional add-on; it is a structural component of a curriculum that aims to equip young people with agency, aspiration, and informed choice. Effective careers education, information, advice and guidance provides the bridge between learning in school and participation in the wider economy and society. It helps learners understand how their interests, values, and capabilities align with real-world opportunities. It also ensures that decisions about post-16 education are made thoughtfully, with awareness of multiple routes to success.
In this Education Conferences UK half day masterclass, education expert Matt Bromley will explore how to make careers education systematic, embedded across the curriculum, and supported by strong relationships with employers, alumni, and further education providers.
