The Ofsted Ready Department: Preparing for a Deep Dive

This Conference is now Closed

This one-day course provides a detailed examination of how Ofsted judgements will be informed by the evidence available within your school, particularly focusing on the quality of the curriculum. The course will guide you through key questions and lines of enquiry, helping you to feel prepared to articulate your school’s approach with clarity and confidence during an inspection.

Ofsted’s Education Inspection Framework (EIF) continues to prioritise curriculum design and delivery at the subject level. Middle leaders now play a pivotal role during inspections, as Ofsted has introduced both graded and ungraded inspection regimes. These inspections centre on in-depth ‘deep dives’ into specific subjects or areas (e.g., mathematics or early years) to assess the quality of education.

An Ofsted deep dive is a rigorous examination of a subject, allowing inspectors to monitor the quality of the curriculum and teaching. The intent is to create a coherent understanding of the ‘Quality of Education’, drawing from multiple deep dives to provide a clearer picture of overall provision at the school.

Additionally, following the feedback from the Big Listen, Ofsted has refined its approach to better reflect the perspectives of educators and ensure a more supportive inspection process.

Key Learning Objectives

  • To clarify the updated Ofsted expectations and explore inspection methodology in light of the new graded and ungraded inspection frameworks. • To refine your approach to curriculum design and delivery, focusing on progression in your subject or area. • To prepare for ‘intent’ conversations and deep dive lines of enquiry. • To develop a robust self-evaluation process, enabling you to approach inspections with confidence
