Quality of Education in the Early Years Foundation Stage

This course offers a deep dive into curriculum design, focusing on both academic content and the development of positive attitudes in students. Participants will explore implementation strategies and pedagogic approaches to translate curriculum intent into effective classroom practices. Additionally, they will learn methods for assessing and monitoring the impact of the curriculum on the holistic development of students.

With focus on the Quality of Education your setting/school provides for the children and community this course will examine the Intent, Implementation, and impact of high quality provision on children’s outcomes.

The course will explore the Ofsted Framework and contextualise the curriculum and put the needs of children at the forefront of thinking. It will focus on how to be extraordinary and assist in gaining ownership of what you do, how you do it and importantly why this is the case.

Neil Farmer is a highly regarded independent educational consultant, offering his expertise to schools and settings across London, the Midlands, and the Southeast. Specialising in school improvement, Neil serves as a specialist for The Brent Schools Partnership, the Diocese of Southwark, and The Griffin and Future Education Trusts. His work encompasses providing operational support for class teachers and strategic guidance for heads, governors, and senior leadership, prioritising areas for development and conducting thorough whole school reviews. Neil’s extensive experience includes conducting performance management reviews for headteachers, assessing governance systems, and his previous role as Head of Early Years in Surrey, where he oversaw the implementation and monitoring of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Outcome Duties.

With a wealth of experience as an Early Years and Foundation Stage teacher, Neil has held leadership roles in nursery, reception, and other year groups. His contributions extend beyond the classroom, serving as a governor for two primary schools and a board member for a newly founded Multi Academy Trust. Neil’s passion for education is evident in his active involvement in national and regional conferences, where he shares insights on topics such as learning dispositions, boys’ education, and early language development. He has authored influential books and articles focusing on effective learning characteristics, narrowing the achievement gap, and implementing quality controls in early years education.
