Set against the backdrop of evolving inspection expectations and the government’s renewed focus on inclusion, attendance, opportunity, employability, and readiness for adulthood, the course explores how schools can ensure every learner is equipped to thrive in education, employment, and later life.
Led by education expert Matt Bromley, the masterclass will examine how schools can develop learners who are independent, resilient, emotionally intelligent, and socially confident. Participants will explore practical strategies to strengthen learners’ motivation, self-regulation, communication skills, cultural capital, and future readiness, while also supporting improved engagement, belonging, attendance, and post-16 destinations.
The course reflects the growing emphasis within inspection and policy on personal development, inclusion, aspiration, and preparation for life in modern Britain. Delegates will consider how curriculum, pastoral systems, enrichment, careers education, and wider school culture can work together to improve long-term outcomes for all learners, particularly those who are disadvantaged or vulnerable. Throughout the day, participants will be encouraged to reflect on their own context and identify actionable strategies that support both school improvement priorities and better life chances for young people.
Key learning objectives:
Identify effective ways to build learners’ confidence, communication skills, and social and cultural awareness.
Evaluate how curriculum, pastoral systems, enrichment, and careers education can work together to support future readiness.
Develop approaches to raising aspirations and preparing learners for successful transitions into post-16 education, employment, and adult life.
Explore how meaningful work experience, careers guidance, and networking opportunities can improve learner outcomes and employability.
Reflect on their own setting and identify actionable next steps to better prepare all learners - including disadvantaged and vulnerable pupils - for future success.
