Supporting High Attainers Including Academically Able Disadvantaged Learners

Tue, 10 Feb 2026

Virtual, Online

This full-day online masterclass is designed to help educators unlock and sustain the potential of high-attaining learners. We’ll explore practical, inclusive strategies to avoid complacency, challenge the compliant, and embed a culture of academic ambition.

Particular attention will be paid to high attainers from disadvantaged backgrounds—those most at risk of underachievement.

We’ll move beyond labels and assumptions, focusing instead on stretch, metacognition, motivation, and equity—so all high-attaining learners thrive, not coast.

By the end of the day, participants will:

  • Understand the risks of under-challenging high attainers—including those who are quiet or compliant

  • Know how to embed stretch through complex, not just additional, tasks

  • Develop strategies to build metacognitive habits, motivation, and independence

  • Be able to identify and support high-attaining learners from disadvantaged backgrounds

  • Begin planning towards a school-wide culture of challenge and academic ambition
