This full-day online masterclass explores how oracy can transform learning—especially for disadvantaged students. We’ll explore how speaking and listening not only support access to the curriculum but build confidence, agency, and social mobility. Through practical strategies focused on accent-ism, code-switching, debating skills, rhetoric, and prosody, educators will leave equipped to teach talk as both a learning mode and a life skill.
Oracy isn’t an “add-on”—it’s a cornerstone of equity. With the help of this course, we’ll teach our students to speak so the world listens.
By the end of the day, participants will:
Understand the role of oracy in addressing educational disadvantage
Be able to teach and model code-switching and accent awareness with sensitivity
Confidently scaffold debating and public speaking activities in class
Know how to embed rhetorical techniques and prosody into oracy instruction
Have a plan to integrate oracy meaningfully into their own curriculum
