During this course Brendan will encourage the participants to consider the impacts that staff restructuring and redundancies can have on a school community. He will share his own experiences and some practical ways in which he tried to reduce these impacts.
During the first session Brendan will discuss everyone’s reason for attending the course, review some of the latest statistics around school closures, and suggest that one of the key elements around the restructuring / redundancy processes is to be totally clear on the reason behind it. Whilst it may feel like a process that occurs due to some failing at the school, often it is due to factors beyond the school’s control. Setting the right culture, avoiding blame, and trying not to allow ‘hindsight’ to dominate discussions will all be topics under consideration.
In the second session Brendan will dig deeper into his own experiences, explaining the processes that led to the restructuring being necessary, and explaining how he and the teams managed these challenging processes. Brendan will give practical advice about measures that he took in order to try and minimise the massive impacts on the school environment and the wellbeing of his staff.
In the final session attendees will have a chance to discuss scenarios that are impacting upon them and their schools and to explore options that may be open to them.
The course will conclude with an opportunity to ask Brendan questions so that you leave feeling more confident about managing
these processes both efficiently and compassionately.
